You can say what you want about mermaids. Myth, legend, fantasy, mystery. I call it all porn. I think mermaids were some of the first porn. Lonely sailors were away from their wives for months or years at a time. So they had to make due with their imaginations. A sailor would dream of having a woman appear right there on the ship. But he would be so used to being around fish that his imagination would conger up an image of a woman with a fish tail for legs. More like a nightmare if you ask me.

But wait! It’s bad luck to have a woman aboard a ship. So she would have to have a purpose for being there.  That’s it! She calls ships by sounding like a drowning woman. But she’s a bad oman because she calls them to shallow waters and certain death. And that’s how the legend was born.
