Sensual Two Girl Seduction? February 21, 2008

Here is another video for you to interpret. Is it artistic in it’s use of clay and slow, sensual appeal or do you view it as an erotic sexual piece showing 2 lesbians taking off each others clothes? Does the attractive look of the models make it more “sexy”? What if they were ugly? Why start clothed and then slowly strip? Is that an intentional attempt to manipulate our emotions?

As an art college student, I love drawing and sketching the nude female form, but I’m also bisexual. Can those 2 states of being come together in an objective way? Does my bisexuality cloud my vision of art and nudity, or does my subjective artistry overrule all that I see? Do I ask a lot of questions? Yes…

The Art Vs. Porn Debate has been around for many years, but perhaps is even more complicated today than it ever was. Nude art has been around since we made our first steps as humans and that which titillated Society in Victorian Art circles quickly morphed into pornography with the advent of photography.
Everything we see today, no matter how hardcore, was already done before by the pioneers of pornography. What may have seemed shocking and scandalous then would barely raise an eyebrow now, even though the acts are the same. In my video example is a clip from the 1950’s that was quite alarming in its day, but reacts from us no more than a chuckle or laugh now as a curio.
Have we become too jaded or saturated with modern day porn and erotica that it no longer gets a reaction from us? Does modern art now push the envelope to get a reaction from us? What is Spenser Tunick doing with the nude human body to get a reaction from us? Why are they even nude? Does Art REQUIRE nudity at all? Most importantly, when Art DOES contain nudity, as it often did in the past, when does it cross over into pornography? Who decides this for us and should they?
I’m not going to answer these questions here. I merely present them as a way to make you THINK while viewing Art AND Porn. The division line is subjective, obviously…just ask anyone! It’ll start a good, healthy debate on art and porn.
Don’t Be Afraid…its Only Sex February 2, 2008

I think fear keeps us in line. And denial. We are taught to deny everything we like. We don’t eat that extra ice cream because it will make us fat, even though we really WANT to. We don’t want to seem indulgent, but I LIKE expressing my needs and desires. Am I bad for wanting what feels natural? No.
Are YOU bad for denying them? Maybe. I’m not here to judge. I am an art student just doing an experiment, and I do have another blog on here. I just want people to THINK. Not many people seem to do that anymore. It’s all about blind obedience now.
Come back often and follow my journey. Leave your own observations while you’re here. It won’t hurt you. I promise.

Why are the words “sex” and “porn” so vilified in modern society? One is a natural act and the other is merely presenting that act. Is it an issue of privacy? Intimacy? Jealousy? Envy? Consider this blog an experiment…
